Allysha Mateo credits preparation, self-motivation, and courage for her success at Connor Group and on the golf course

Connor Group intern and prospective associate Allysha Mateo exemplifies the values and qualities Connor Group lives by. She is likable, competent, disciplined, and courageous.

She is also teed up to compete in Stage 1 of the LPGA Tour Qualifying School August 28 – 31.  Qualifying School, or Q School, gives female golfers the opportunity to earn their LPGA Tour Card for next year’s season, gaining full status on the LPGA tour at the end of the third and final stage. Q School sifts through hundreds of female golfers and finds those exceptional women who can compete on the LPGA tour with the best female professional golfers in the world through a series of cuts made over the three stages.

Allysha was a successful, five-year starter for the Brigham Young University (BYU) Cougars. With a habit of living by self-statements, she put her many mottos into action, driving her education, golf career, and future – statements she brings to her work at Connor Group.

“Courage equals learning, and I was taught that the smartest people ask the most questions,” said Allysha. “If you never ask the question or ask for the opportunity, you never learn or know what you are capable of.”

Allysha Mateo is capable of a lot.

She worked and paid her way through college with golf scholarships and with what she calls being a “gritty fighter with a competitive spirit.” During her summer breaks, Allysha practiced and competed in golf tournaments while gaining work experience through internships, including one with Connor Group last summer. She graduated from BYU’s business school last April with a high GPA and a Master of Accountancy degree and has signed to join Connor Group as an associate later this year.

Allysha is a first-generation American. Her parents immigrated from the Philippines and worked hard so she could attend private school and lessons so she would be prepared when opportunities arose.

“Connor Group has made me feel like I can accomplish anything,” Allysha said. “Failure isn’t scary. It’s a step to reaching my full potential.”

“Connor Group internships are challenging and are terrific growth and development opportunities, attracting brilliant interns with a strong growth mindset like Allysha,” said Jaron Chatterley, Connor Group partner. “Her discipline and how she maximizes opportunities available to her has made her very successful. Allysha developed confidence by learning quickly through preparation and always giving her best effort. This is proven in what she accomplishes on the golf course and at Connor Group.”
